I was looking over some of my earlier blog posts and came across this one that I posted about this time last year: Top 10 Terrible Holiday Gifts Employers Give Employees. I realized, as you probably will too, that it’s not just employees that receive horrible gifts. Everyone has, at least once in their life, received something that they didn’t want and didn’t use, proof of which can be found here and here.
So, this holiday season, consider going virtual.
There are plenty of reasons why you should consider virtual prepaid gifts and rewards. I did a little research and came across some surprising statistics.
People love to shop online. Invesp reports that over 80% of the online population has purchased something online, with over 50% making more than one purchase.
In fact, eCommerce sales are growing by more than 19% a year and will likely reach $1.4 trillion by 2015. And what are they using to shop? Prepaid cards. 35% of online shoppers use prepaid cards for their purchases.
Give them something they can use. The National Retail Federation (NRF) surveyed more than 7,500 consumers during the first week of October, reporting that a record 56 % of consumers plan to shop online this year. That figure is up from 51.5 % last year and is a record high for the 13 years that the NRF has been doing the survey. The average shopper will do 44.4 % of his/her shopping online this holiday season1, which is another record.
People are using mobile devices to shop. Mobile eCommerce is also growing, and is predicted to reach 23.8 billion by 2015, up from 17.5 billion this year. Consider these statistics:
- 55.7 percent of smartphone owners will use their device in some way for holiday shopping, up from 53.8 percent last year
- 35.8 percent of smartphone owners will use it to research products and prices, an all-time high
- 19.1 percent of smartphone owners will buy a holiday gift via their device, another record
- 47.4 percent of tablet owners will use it to research holiday items, and 33 percent will buy something via their tablet
Why not go virtual? This holiday season, consider Virtual Incentives as a partner for your gift giving program. We have many products to choose from, and whatever gift you choose, we make it easy to deliver.
Should you decide on one of the many eGift cards we offer, our new mobile payment platform gives recipients a completely virtual experience. They’ll receive their gift on their smartphone or tablet and can immediately use their mobile device to shop in store or online.
That’s what we call instant gratification.
1 The NRF counts November and December as its holiday shopping season, and respondents include consumers who’ll be shopping for Christmas, Hanukkah and/or Kwanzaa.
